He remains unresponsive for the year they’re on the run, rallying just as Zack makes his last stand. He succumbs to mako poisoning and by the time Zack escapes he’s reduced to a vegetative state. He ends up being one of Professor Hojo’s test subjects, an attempt at another Sephiroth clone to test the Reunion Theory, and is deemed an eventual failure. In an unprecedented show of strength, Cloud manages leverage with the blade and uses it to toss Sephiroth over the edge into the reactor’s mako pit before collapsing. When the mission goes south, Cloud is forced to witness the death of his mother and destruction of his hometown before racing to the reactor after Sephiroth. He sees Tifa and Zack, both struck down, and takes after the maddened SOLDIER with Zack’s Buster Sword, impaling him before hurrying back to tend to Tifa. Sephiroth had not died, however, and returned to impale Cloud on the end of Masamune. Their final meeting is on the fateful mission to Nibelheim under Sephiroth’s command. During Crisis Core, he’s first introduced on the way to Modeoheim where he strikes up a friendship with Zack, and they meet again in Junon during one of Genesis’ attacks. He plays a roll in Before Crisis with his squad, and though it is the Player Turk who is the hero of the day, he demonstrates his compassion, stubbornness, and unexpected talent with a blade. Perhaps because he also blamed himself, when he prepares to leave Nibelheim five years later to try and become SOLDIER like his hero Sephiroth, he calls Tifa out to the water tower to explain his goal, and makes a promise to her that he’ll come back for her, whenever she needs him.ĭespite his attempts, Cloud never makes the cut for SOLDIER and serves the ShinRa military as an infantry trooper. Cloud had no close friends as a child, including Tifa despite living close to her, and was in fact somewhat snobbish to the other children, viewing them as immature.Ĭloud was blamed for an accident that nearly took Tifa’s life when he was nine, and became even more antagonistic towards the other children, going so far as to get into fights. His father is stated to be dead, though there are some fan theories that he actually just vanished and Cloud was led to believe he was dead. (Due to the length of material available about Cloud, the bulk of this is under a cut.)Īs a child, Cloud was raised by his mother in Nibelheim where he grew up with others such as Tifa Lockhart, near the same ShinRa Manor where Sephiroth was born and Vincent Valentine was killed. However, the price goes down drastically after the Highwind (airship) has been acquired Level 4, Omnislash, is able to be obtained by using the manual after all six limit breaks have been unlocked and can be won at Battle Square in the Gold Saucer as early as having the Tiny Bronco on Disc One.Level 3 begins with Meteorain after killing 200 enemies, Finishing Touch unlocking after using Meteorain six times.Level 2 begins with Blade Beam after killing 120 enemies, Climhazzard unlocking after using Blade Beam seven times.Level 1 begins with Braver, and Cross-slash is gained by after using Braver eight times.Chronologically, he is first identified in Before Crisis on a mission to protect Professor Rayleigh from the first incarnation of AVALANCHE.Ĭloud is a knight-styled character, reflected directly in his limit breaks and the weapons he favors (largely broadswords) - his limits, while more powerful than others, are also harder to learn. He is listed as 5′7 as an adult, with the blood type AB.Ĭloud is best known as the lead protagonist of the original FFVII, but makes an appearance in most of the Compilation. His ages through the compilation are as follows: The day was changed to the 11th by the Ultimania. Cloud Strife was originally listed as being born on August 19th, 1986.
